Longboard surfing gets its name from the kind of board that is used by surfers who prefer this form of the activity. Aside from its length, the longboard also has a greater buoyancy and a planing surface that makes riding even on small waves easy for both experienced and novice surfers. Longboards are made out of polyurethane foam and fibreglass, which allows less drag on the waves. Some of the most popular designs are the Tri-fin, the Gun, and the 2+1. The Tri-fin has three fins at its tail instead of the usual single fin. This enables the surfer to make easier turns and thrusts in the water.

Meanwhile, the Gun has tear drop shaped layout that allows its rider to pierce into the waves. It also gives a surfer more paddling capabilities prior to catching a wave. Then there’s the 2+1 which is considered to be the most versatile of all longboard models. It has a classic single fin design but also incorporates the drive and the strength of a tri-fin, giving a rider greater manoeuvrability.
